If Only I Had Known

WASHINGTON, Dec 6 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush will unveil a plan on Thursday aimed at slowing a wave of home loan foreclosures that has threatened to knock the U.S. economy into recession and rattled investors worldwide. ...MORE...

OK, now I am not so naive as to think that our president is out to save poor people from losing their homes, but rather INVESTORS and BANKS from losing their shirts, HOWEVER, had I known there would be a government bailout, perhaps I would have purchased a home I knew I could not afford.

Like many, especially here in Southern California, I've been watching the housing market absolutely skyrocket out of control. I've been wanting to buy my own place. I've been diligently saving money, only to watch the prices move even further out of reach. But wait! I could have qualified for a zero down, hundred percent financed interest only loan. But no, silly me opted to go the old fashioned route, and look for property and/or a mortgage I could afford. And I blew it. I'm still a renter.

How about you?

I am a new homeowner and it pisses me off, too. I saved. I am fiscally responsible. I got a standard 30 year fixed mortgage. I bought an older house without all the bells and whistles because it is what I could afford.

So. Annoyed.

Never fear, there should be some cheap property on the market soon!

I'm pissed, too. I own a one-thousand square foot home and have a 30-year fixed mortgage. But I'd like to buy another home with a second bathroom since now we have a kid. Of course, even with having made a little bit of money on our home were we to sell it, our next mortgage would almost double. And let's not even talk about the property taxes we'd pay.

Where is my handout? I work hard. I pay my mortgage. I pay all the ever-increasing water fees and electric fees and cable fees crafted to give the politicians the appearance of having NOT raised taxes. Really, they ding those of us in the "middle" (whatever that is) while the wealthy have fancy loop-holes and their good friend Bush, to avoid higher taxes.

I hate that people have been taken advantage of by lenders who preyed on the disadvantaged when they could. But this is a slap in the face to the many of us who made the responsible decisions---including those of us who held off from buying because they could see down the road a bit. We'd like a break as well, Georgie. You f***er.

As for you, jesais, eebie is right. There will be an opportunity for you in the near future.
